This book is an attempt to present the modern ideas of systems analysis and project management in a form which will demonstrate their essential unity and their applicability in a wide variety of industrial and governmental management environments. The modern organization, be it governmental, educational, or industrial, is' confronted with a continuing stream of potential projects. Whether the projects involve urban renewal programs, transportation systems, new products, corporate merger possibilities, or the acquisition of new equipment or facilities, their impact will be felt throughout the organization. Individuals at various levels of the organization will be called on to provide information and assistance to those who analyze and carry out the projects. Thus, a basic understanding of the strategic decision-making processes involved in comparing and evaluating these project proposals, and of the efforts necessary to effectively carry out those which are selected for implementation, is necessary at all levels of the organization.
